Tidepool Mirror

“Tidepool Mirror” is a 36” round mirror with overlaid, layered, laser-cut wood. I’m fascinated by tidepools as miniature worlds, and this piece was a chance to build a flowing, circular composition as a drawing, break it down into pieces small enough to cut with my laser cutter, and create a cohesive structure around a reclaimed mirror. Water-based inks were used to add soft colors to the natural birch tones. The edge of the mirror is integrated into the piece just as a pool of water would be surrounded by rocks, plants and tidal organisms from Kachemak Bay.
